Thermo King Demonstrates Proven Pathways to Cut Fuel Use, Lower Emissions and Strengthen Italy’s Cold Chain at Transpotec Logitec in Milan

Event

High‑performance electric refrigeration systems for vans, trucks and trailers take center stage as Thermo King highlights technologies for a cleaner, more resilient cold chain.

Thermo King®, a leader in transport temperature control solutions and a brand of Trane Technologies, will showcase its latest all-electric E-Series and

E-Volution refrigeration units at the Transpotec Logitec fair in Milan, Italy from 13-16 May 2026. Designed for vans, light commercial vehicles (LCVs) and rigid trucks between 7.5 and 26 tonnes, these electric solutions address the evolving demands of modern cold‑chain logistics, offering fleets greater compliance, cost control and long‑term resilience.

In addition to the van and truck lineup, Thermo King will also present its fully integrated electric trailer unit concept, a power‑agnostic design that draws from multiple renewable and regenerative sources to support the decarbonisation of trailer refrigeration.

“Volatile oil prices and market instability continue to expose refrigerated transport operators to unpredictable costs. Yet with today’s technology, fleets have clear, proven pathways to cut fuel use, lower emissions and build resilience against future price shocks,” said Marco Tosi, Area Sales Manager Thermo King Italy. “Electrification offers not only environmental benefits but real operational and cost stability. Reducing fuel consumption, not refrigerants, remains the industry’s most powerful lever for lowering both operating costs and CO₂ emissions. Our fully electric, hybrid and energy‑recovery refrigeration systems are delivering measurable savings, helping early adopters reduce fuel dependence and strengthen their competitive edge. Thermo King is the partner to guide fleets as they transition, and support confident operation in today’s regulated and volatile environment.”

E-Volution: all-electric cooling for electric and fuel-driven vehicles

E‑Volution is a high-capacity unit for rigid trucks between 7.5 and 26 tonnes, validated for leading battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and internal combustion engine (ICE) trucks. Its integrated electric architecture simplifies installation, reduces component complexity and delivers one of the slimmest and lightest profiles in its class for reduced truck height design and lower vehicle energy consumption. An independent Life Cycle Assessment has verified that E-Volution delivers up to a 45 percent reduction in CO₂ emissions versus diesel units.

The units’ variable speed system enables automatic and driver-controlled noise management for early morning, late evening and residential area deliveries. With zero direct emission and reduced acoustic footprint, E-Volution suits city centres, low noise and low emission zones, where compliance is essential for access and business continuity. Its high-voltage DC system design connects directly to the DC ePTO (electrical Power Take-Off) of BEVs, maximising electrical efficiency, eliminating AC conversion losses and minimising BEV range impact.

E-Series: electric cooling for urban and inner-city delivery

The new E-100e, E-200e and E-200e Spectrum single and multi-temperature models deliver up to 20% lower energy consumption, up to 50% more heating capacity, and are up to 32% lighter than previous generations. Smart controls optimise energy use and minimise impact on the BEV’s driving range. The units deliver powerful and constant cooling capacity, rapid pulldown and fast temperature recovery, independent of the vehicle’s engine speed. Holdover capability also maintains precise temperature control even when the vehicle is stationary.

Both E-Series and E-Volution feature integrated telematics providing real-time performance data, accurate temperature logging, alarms and remote adjustments to improve load protection and operational oversight. These insights help optimise fleet scheduling, enable rapid response to events and support proactive maintenance planning.

Fully Integrated Electric Trailer Unit Concept

Thermo King will also showcase its visionary concept for the future of decarbonised trailer transport. Engineered for adaptability and intelligence, this power-agnostic concept trailer unit can draw power from multiple sources, including AxlePower-regenerated energy, tractor batteries, rooftop solar, depot charging, and auxiliary battery packs. Advanced AI analytics optimise energy use, maximise uptime, and reduce operational CO₂ emissions. Featuring a compact, streamlined design, low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant, and transparent life cycle reporting, this concept redefines what’s possible in sustainable refrigerated trailer distribution.
