A2B Finland strives for 100% CO2 free deliveries with new electric vans featuring Thermo King E-200 and B-100 Eco units.

Thermo King®, a leader in transport temperature control solutions and a brand of Trane Technologies, announced today that A to B Finland Oy (A2B) expanded their home delivery fleet with new zero-emission, fully electric vehicles: Mercedes eSprinter equipped with the E-200 refrigeration unit, and the Peugeot E-Expert with the B-100 ECO unit. The E-200 unit additionally features a Thermo King lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery pack to increase the vehicle’s autonomy and ensure hold over capacity during deliveries.

Throughout last decade, A2B has been a pioneer in the ecological transport in Finland offering a climate-friendly and locally emission-free transportation services. As part of their most recent efforts towards achieving 100% CO2 free deliveries, A2B added the new electric Mercedes eSprinter and Peugeot E-Expert vans to their fleet serving the Helsinki area. To ensure temperature-controlled environment in the vehicles, and enhance their sustainability commitment, A2B worked together with Thermo King and its official Finnish dealer VTA Tekniikka.

“Our entire fleet is powered by renewable fuels, including vehicles running on biogas produced from waste and on electricity generated by wind power. This fleet annually saves 400,000 kilograms of CO2 compared to a equivalent diesel powered vehicles. With our operations, we’re setting an example of what’s possible in terms of battling the climate change and local emissions,” said Tero Kakko, CEO at A to B Finland. “We have a deep trust in Thermo King and VTA Teknikka, who, throughout the years, have been helping us to gain competitive advantage with their sustainable refrigeration solutions and service. It was a natural decision for us to leverage Thermo King’s electric systems in this new project.”

“Home delivery continues to expand, and clean technologies are critical to address environmental challenges, reduce loss of foods and medicines. We take pride in partnering with companies like A2B Finland and together creating zero-emission last mile distribution,” said Francesco Incalza, president of Thermo King in Europe, Middle East and Africa. “Thermo King continues to advance electrification of the refrigerated transport to reduce pollutants, emissions and noise as the goods are transported throughout the cold chain. We will keep working closely with our customers to meet their needs and support their efforts for sustainable transport and deliveries.”

Electric-powered delivery vans like the Mercedes eSprinter, coupled with the Thermo King E-200 confidently meet current and future sustainability targets. The E-200 units, being inverter driven, unlike typical direct drive solutions designed for diesel combustion engines, deliver constant capacity and can seamlessly work with electric-powered vehicles like the eSprinter. The Li-ion battery pack is fully integrated it with the E-200 units’ patented power management, which contributes to lower energy consumption, increased vehicle autonomy and higher efficiency and reliability.

The Thermo King B-100 ECO has been specifically developed to meet the extreme low energy consumption required by smaller electric vehicles like the Peugeot E-Expert. The standard 12V auxiliary battery of the electric vehicle is enough to power the B-100 ECO unit and there is no requirement for additional batteries on the electric van.
