Dansk Cater A/S deploys new all-electric trucks featuring Frigoblock EK refrigeration units specifically adapted for battery electric vehicles.
Thermo King®, a leader in transport temperature control solutions and a brand of Trane Technologies, announced today that Dansk Cater A/S in Denmark, has introduced a new Scania Regional electric trucks fitted with upgraded and e-adapted Frigoblock EK refrigeration units. The latest deployment is part of a continuous collaboration and delivery that supports Dansk Cater’s sustainability strategy to lower emissions and noise pollution. The new fully electric refrigerated fleet complies with new urban regulations without compromising operational efficiency or multi-temperature cooling performance.
Dansk Cater operates a nationwide fleet of over 300 vehicles, distributing temperature-sensitive products to restaurants, schools and universities. As part of its broader sustainability strategy, the company is progressively transitioning its fleet to battery-electric vehicles (BEV). The newly deployed next-level Scania Regional BEV trucks enable Dansk Cater to carry out quiet, zero-emission night and day deliveries on selected inner-city and regional routes in and around Copenhagen. Operating since March 2025, the trucks are equipped with Thermo King’s Frigoblock EK units specifically e-adapted to meet the power, safety and technical requirements of Scania’s latest electric truck platform.
Thermo King collaborated closely with Scania and their local dealer, Im. Stiholt A/S, integrating the refrigeration technology with their next level BEV models to ensure high efficiency and compliance with latest safety standards. The refrigeration units were upgraded to reduce power consumption and noise levels, achieving OEM validation guaranteeing seamless compatibility with the truck’s electrical system.
With full integration into the vehicle’s electric high-voltage system, the Frigoblock EK units deliver the same reliable cooling performance Dansk Cater previously experienced with diesel-powered refrigeration. The undermount configuration further helps reduce noise impact on surrounding residential areas – a crucial factor for inner-city deliveries.
“Our priority was to achieve emissions and noise reduction without sacrificing reliability or cooling capacity and thus the quality of the transported goods,” said Kim Christiansen, transport manager at Dansk Cater. “Thanks to Thermo King’s tailored solution and collaboration with Scania, we have the confidence and peace of mind to operate a fully electrified fleet in urban areas – without disruptions to our customers or local communities.”
“The Frigoblock EK for BEV trucks is not just a product upgrade, it reflects our ongoing collaboration with vehicle manufacturers and fleet operators to deliver practical, high-performing and efficient electric refrigeration solutions,“ said Sergio Blas Medina, product manager for Large Truck Electrification at Thermo King. “Our partnership with Scania and Dansk Cater demonstrates how fully electric refrigerated transport can be successfully deployed – on the streets and in real-life operations.”
This project underscores Thermo King’s innovation and specialised customer approach, that have made the company an ally in Dansk Cater journey toward decarbonisation. Thermo King continues to support the foodservice sector in advancing environmentally friendly, high performance transport refrigeration, setting industry benchmarks for reliability and innovation in the industry.
