Thermo King Electric Units Cool Mediplus Pharma Distribution Fleet in Romania
Mediplus’ fleet with Thermo King solutions makes one of Romania’s largest active pharmaceutical distribution fleet in operation running only electrical refrigeration units.
Thermo King®, a leader in transport temperature control solutions for a variety of mobile applications and a brand of Ingersoll Rand, partnered with Mediplus Exim, a leading Romanian distributor of pharmaceutical products and part of Dr. Max pan-European pharmaceutical group. As a result of the project, they created one of the largest fleet in operation that runs only electrical refrigeration units for active pharma distribution in Romania. The new, modernized fleet distributes pharmaceuticals from warehouse to pharmacies and features the new all-electric Thermo King E-200 MAX 50 and the B-100 30 refrigeration units.
Controlled and uncompromised transport of pharmaceutical products through the distribution network is critical for maintaining the quality and integrity of these products. Mediplus required a temperature controlled solution for their fleet that not only ensured compliance with the European Union guidelines on good distribution practice (GDP) for medicinal products, but would also deliver value in terms of maintenance, fuel savings and meeting environmental regulatory requirements. Thermo King electric and direct-drive units ticked all these boxes and provided Mediplus with solid and reliable temperature management to protect its high-value cargo.
“We focus our efforts to increase the quality, reliability and diversity of the services we provide to our customers and suppliers, raising quality standards and performance on the Romanian pharmaceutical market,” said Sorin David, logistic director at Mediplus. “We try to innovate in everything we do and Thermo King is a leader in electrification in the transport climate control industry. Our partnership to create one of the largest Romanian fleet running only electrical refrigeration units was a natural next step in our relationship. We knew that with their expertise, product quality, service and technical support, the solutions they provided would consolidate our market leader position.”
“Our relationship with Mediplus is part of Thermo King’s vision to collaborate with customers to keep advancing the transport climate control technologies and deliver the product innovation, reliability, optimal efficiency and economics that meet their expectations,” said Jozsef Torok, sales leader for South Eastern Europe at Thermo King. “The transport industry, and pharmaceutical in particular, has a plethora of rules to comply to. Our job is to work closely with customers and deliver products like the E-200, which ‘future-proof’ their operations by addressing these regulatory requirements as well as environmental expectations.”
Thanks to the support of Termoport, the official Thermo King Dealer in Romania, Mediplus now operates a fleet including 144 new vehicles featuring E-200 MAX 50 for their chilled (2-8 degrees Celsius) applications and B-100 30 units for controlled ambient (15-25 degrees Celsius) applications. All vehicles feature single-temperature zone configuration to deliver solid temperature management and protect its sensitive cargo during the intensive, multiple-door-openings delivery routes every day.
The E-200 unit is the latest addition to the Thermo King non-diesel portfolio and represents the next generation of full-electric refrigeration units. Unlike typical direct drive solutions designed for diesel combustion engines, E-200 works independently from the vehicles’ engines and associated moving parts, and can work with both electric and engine-powered vehicles.
Creating a new, sustainable refrigeration system, the E-200 features patented power management, which contributes to lower energy consumption, increased vehicle autonomy and higher efficiency and reliability. Additionally the E-200 units come with factory available hold over option, which with additional battery pack or through the vehicle’s secondary battery, can provide the unit with capacity independent from the vehicle during stops for deliveries or breaks.
This project is aligned with Ingersoll Rand 2030 sustainability aspirations, and the commitment to, through the heating, ventilation, air-conditioning (HVAC) and transport refrigeration products and services, reduce customer carbon footprint by one gigaton1 CO2e – equivalent to the annual emissions of Italy, France and the United Kingdom combined.
